PCOS Dietitian in Islamabad

A PCOS diet plan targets insulin resistance, the driver behind weight gain, irregular periods and acne in most women with PCOS. Sadaf Sajid builds protein-first, lower-glycaemic desi meals, adds circadian meal timing, and pairs them with movement and sleep so that cycles, energy and weight improve together.

How does food affect PCOS?

Up to 7 in 10 women with PCOS have some insulin resistance. High insulin pushes the ovaries to make more androgens, which disrupts ovulation and causes acne, hair growth and weight gain around the waist. Lowering insulin through food, activity and sleep is the most powerful non-drug tool. Even a 5–10% weight loss can bring back regular cycles in many women.

What to eat for PCOS (desi version)

Sample PCOS day

Meal Example
Breakfast 2-egg omelette with vegetables + 1 small chakki roti; chai without sugar
Mid-morning Apple + 6–8 almonds
Lunch Chicken or chana salan + salad + ½ cup brown rice or 1 roti
Evening Dahi with chia or roasted chana
Dinner (early) Daal + sabzi + salad; no rice at night if sugars are high

Beyond diet

PCOS care at The Healing Wheel includes meal timing (see SWIPE), strength training, stress and sleep work from lifestyle medicine, and coordination with your gynaecologist on medication such as metformin and on fertility plans.

Thyroid and PCOS together

Many women have both. Sadaf checks TSH and vitamin D, and adjusts the plan if hypothyroidism is present. See thyroid diet.

Movement for PCOS

Strength training 2–3 times a week builds muscle, which acts as a glucose sink and improves insulin sensitivity. Add a 10–15 minute walk after meals and 7,000–9,000 steps a day. Yoga and breathing work help with stress-related cravings (lifestyle medicine).

Frequently asked questions

What is the best diet for PCOS?

There is no single "PCOS diet". The best evidence supports a balanced, lower-glycaemic pattern with adequate protein and fibre that you can sustain, plus weight loss if needed. Sadaf adapts this to Pakistani meals and your labs.

Can PCOS be cured with diet?

PCOS can't be cured, but symptoms often improve significantly. Many women regain regular cycles, better skin and easier weight control with diet, activity and sleep changes.

Should I go keto or stop eating roti for PCOS?

Not necessary. Very low-carb diets can work short-term but are hard to sustain. Measured portions of high-fibre roti and rice fit well in a PCOS plan.

Do supplements like inositol help PCOS?

Some studies suggest myo-inositol may help cycles and insulin sensitivity, but the evidence is mixed. Sadaf discusses supplements case by case with your doctor.
