Desi foods that help in pregnancy
- Iron: daal, chana, palak, chicken, eggs and red meat in moderation, plus vitamin C (lemon, guava) to aid absorption
- Calcium: milk, dahi, paneer
- Protein: eggs, daal, chicken, fish (choose low-mercury fish)
- Fibre for constipation: chakki atta, fruit, isabgol, water
Traditional foods: what's okay?
Panjiri, gond ke laddu and harireh are very high in calories. Small portions are fine, but daily large servings drive excess weight gain. Sadaf helps you keep the traditions without overdoing them.

Postpartum and breastfeeding
Breastfeeding uses roughly 400–500 extra kcal a day. Focus on fluids (a glass of water at each feed), protein and calcium. Gradual weight loss of about 0.5 kg a week usually doesn't affect milk supply. Traditional foods such as panjiri and dry-fruit laddu are fine in small portions.
Daily water intake calculator
General guide (about 30–35 ml/kg). People with kidney or heart failure must follow their doctor's fluid limit.

How much weight should I gain in pregnancy?
It depends on your pre-pregnancy BMI. Guidelines suggest roughly 11–16 kg for a normal-weight woman, less if starting overweight. Your plan is matched to your BMI and your doctor's advice.
What should I eat with gestational diabetes?
Smaller, evenly spaced meals with controlled carbs paired with protein and fibre, no sugary drinks, and a bedtime snack if advised. Targets are set with your gynaecologist.
Can I lose weight while breastfeeding?
Yes, gradually. About 0.5 kg a week is generally safe once breastfeeding is established, with enough calories, protein and fluids to protect your milk supply.
